He came from Rothbury Insurance Brokers, the fourth largest insurance brokerage in New Zealand, where he was Tauranga’s branch manager and commercial broker. He started the Tauranga Branch from scratch in 2007 and built the business to six employees and 900 clients over that time. Mat was broker of the year for Rothbury in 2011 and new business broker of the year 2010. Mat’s skills are in his customers service, his identification of clients’ needs and finding innovative solutions to fill those needs. These skills will transfer well into Commercial and Industrial Property Sales and Leasing. Prior to Mat’s 10 year commercial insurance career, he spent 13 years in hospitality working all over in New Zealand, Australia and a couple of stints in the States. Highlights of his career included being on the management team for the start-up of the first NZ based Starbucks stores, after three months training in Seattle and managing ski field restaurants in Queenstown and Aspen. This hospitality experience gives Mat a great understanding of the wants and needs of retail and hospitality business. Mat moved to Tauranga in 2004 and lives at the Mount with his wife and two kids.
